Why is Breakfast Important?

Breakfast is considered as the most important meal of the day. As the name suggests, you 'break' your 'fast' after a long period, of approximately 10 hours.

A healthy breakfast helps replenish your energy, and your alertness levels, while providing the body with the nutrients required for good health.

Many studies have shown that a good breakfast has the following benefits:

1. Higher energy levels

2. Better concentration

3. Weight management

4. Lower risk of diabetes

5. Lower risk of heart disease

6. Helps control weight.

People who eat breakfast generally have healthier diets overall, have better eating habits and are less likely to be hungry for snacks during the day than people who skip breakfast.

People who skip breakfast tend to nibble on snacks during the mid-morning or afternoon. This can be a problem if those snacks are low in fibre, vitamins and minerals, but high in fat and salt. Without the extra energy that breakfast can offer, some people feel lethargic and turn to high-energy food and drinks to get them through the day.

We will discuss some healthy breakfast options in our next post.
